Applied Spectra Awarded Phase I SBIR Funding by the
US Department of Energy

FREMONT, Calif. (June 19, 2010) — Applied Spectra, Inc. announced today that it has been awarded Phase I SBIR frunding from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). This project will employ laser-based orthogonal sensor technologies to detect toxic metals and organic contaminants in the environment. The goal of the project will be the development of a portable analytical field device for analyzing surface and sub-surface soils for environmental contaminants. Diane Wong, Ph.D will lead the effort.

“By using environmentally-friendly, laser-based analytical methods to detect environmental pollutants, we can help clean up the environment with tools that don’t contribute to the problem of chemical waste generation," stated Dr. Wong.

The Phase I program contract period will be for nine months.
