Elemental Mapping
With a 3-D automatic stage, fully synchronized with the laser, LIBS can generate a highly detailed map of different elements on a sample. The image shows the cotton swipe used to rub the unknown area to determine the contamination of Beryllium (Be). An area measuring 1 square centimeter was set up with a software-generated grid with 500 micron spacing. The color map shows the area where Be is present (red).
