RESOlution

Premier 193 nm excimer laser ablation for geoscience — precision, stability, and throughput for demanding LA-ICP-MS applications.

Applied Spectra RESOlution 193 nm excimer laser ablation instrument

Overview

Premier 193 nm excimer laser ablation for geoscience

RESOlution is Applied Spectra’s premier 193 nm excimer laser ablation platform for geoscience research. Designed for high-precision LA-ICP-MS in geochronology, ore deposit studies, paleoclimate reconstruction, and mineral-scale trace-element mapping, RESOlution combines precision laser sampling, extended depth of focus, and high analytical throughput.

Available in SE and LR models, RESOlution provides two laser configurations for different analytical priorities while sharing the core technologies and performance that define the RESOlution platform.

RESOlution SE — Compact, Fast & Tandem-Ready

RESOlution SE combines a compact, proven 193 nm excimer laser with high repetition-rate operation for high-precision geochronology and high-speed mineral imaging.

SE can also be configured with Tandem Prism™, adding LIBS capability to create RESOlution Tandem and enabling complementary LIBS and ICP-MS chemical information from the same laser sampling event.

Geoscience Applications

Advanced geoscience research

RESOlution supports advanced geochronology, in-situ isotope geochemistry, ore deposit studies, mineral exploration, paleoclimate reconstruction, mineral-scale trace-element mapping, mineral characterization, and other geological research.

RESOlution integrates with ClarityNeXt™ to transform time-resolved ICP-MS data into quantitative and qualitative analysis, elemental and isotopic imaging, and advanced data visualization. RESOlution Tandem further enables LIBS and LA-ICP-MS data fusion for expanded chemical characterization.

RESOchron

Integrated geochronology & thermochronology

RESOchron combines an Applied Spectra RESOlution laser ablation system with Alphachron™, available from Thermochron Systems, and an ICP-MS platform to enable in-situ U-Th-Pb-He double dating and trace-element characterization of mineral grains.

The integrated approach combines helium thermochronology with laser-ablation ICP-MS analysis, providing geochronology, thermochronology, and trace-element information from individual crystals. RESOchron is designed for applications including mineral exploration, petroleum basin analysis, tectonics, and landscape evolution.
